Bountiful Police Department released the video recorded by the first officer on the scene at Mueller Park Junior High School on December 1st, CBS News reports.
After leaving his patrol car, the short clip shows the officer running through the empty school hallways before seeing a man apprehend the 15-year-old boy and pin him against the wall.
He was later identified as the kid’s father, with the mother also seen in the video placing a shotgun and handgun on the ground, which the teen originally had in his possession.
His parents told authorities that they had concerns about him that morning and decided to follow him to school after finding out that their weapons were missing.
The pair then heard a shot being fired and quickly ran to disarm their child at the school.
During a detention hearing on Thursday Davis County Deputy Attorney Ryan Perkins said prosecutors want to try the teen as an adult.
He is now being charged with two counts of felony theft of a firearm; one count of felony discharge of a firearm; and two counts of misdemeanour possession of a short-barreled shotgun on school premises, KUTV reports.
The boy’s attorney, Lindsay Jarvis, told Juvenile Judge Mark Andrus that she plans to request a psychological evaluation of the boy.
He will next appear in court on December 22nd.
